A TRIBUTE TO MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY
featuring Utada Hikaru
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Mary-Kate and Ashley Fuller Olsen were born on June 13th, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, California,
to proud parents David, and Jarnette (Jarnie), wich is a former ballet dancer...
They are the second and third of four children (older brother Trent and younger sister Elizabeth (or Lizzie),) with Ashley being about 2 minutes older than Mary-Kate. They also have a stepmother called McKenzie and a half brother and sister named Jake and Taylor.
Jarnie heard from a friend of her, that there were auditions to a tv-serie at that time called "Full House."
For so young children, laws decided over a certain number of hours for a child to work.
Therefore using twins would be a smart way to solve this problem.
Although Jarnie and David didn't want to send in photos of their girls to the Sitcom executive producers,
they went along with it, and M-K and Ash were so impressive and well-behaved that they got the part of youngest daughter,
Michelle Tanner.
In 1991, the twins made a movie - 'To Grandmother's House We Go', which topped the rank for children's movies. They started on a new career and recorded an album called 'Brother for Sale.'
"We had to sing each word until it was perfect." "It was fun though because it was our first time ever singing anything and it wasn't really singing, it was kind of talking." comment; Mary-Kate and Ashley.
The twins got a manager, Robert Thorne, who upped their salary and their careers.
At just 6 years old, the girls became the youngest executive producers with their own production company, (Dualstar Entertainment Group).
They also featured in 2 new direct to video series - 'The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley', where the twins pretended to be detectives, and solved crimes. And 'You're Invited To Mary-Kate and Ashley's ...', where the twins would hold parties all around the world and be joined by their friends for fun. More full length videos were also made.
'Double Double Toil and Trouble,' and a western named 'How the West was Fun.' Unfortunately, the twins suffered both the cancellation of 'Full House,' and their parent's divorce in the year of 1995, but it didn't mean they quit working.
More CD's were made, books to accompany the twins' video series. Films were produced, and the twins starred in their first feature film.
'It Takes Two,'including Steve Guttenburg and Kirstie Alley. In 1998, the twins returned to series on televition, called
'Two of a Kind,' where Ashley was cast as a girlie-girl, and Mary-Kate a complete tomboy. Which was a large exaggeration of their personalities.
Also in 1998, the twins starred in the movie 'Billboard Dad,' which is their first movie involving boys.
Ashley describes it as the: "edgiest movie we had made at that point, and from then on, that's when we grew up more."
The Adventure Series was ended, but in 1999, as Two of a Kind was still running, the last of the Party videos: 'School Dance Party' was filmed. Unfortunately, Two of a Kind ended later this year as well, as it failed to capture the audience like 'Full House' did, and was cancelled after just one season.
This did not mean Mary-Kate and Ashley's careers were over. In fact at this point, the girls got into one of their busiest times of their life.
The movies 'Passport to Paris,'Switching Goals,'and 'Our Lips are Sealed,' were released and the twins got more famous than eveeeeer. (I accidently held the e too long, sorry)
When Two of a Kind first got running, a lot of fans began to write in, asking the girls where their clothes were from. In fact The Olsen twins' clothes were adult clothes cut into their sizes.
A teenage magazine was produced which is currently on hold:(
The films 'Winning London,' 'Holiday in the Sun' and 'Getting There', were released.
The twins have been starring in their own series, 'So Little Time,' on the Fox Family Channel.
During this time, they also filmed 'When in Rome' and their straight to video 'The Challenge'.
The girls also pulled themselves out of So Little Time, looking out for the big screen. As this happened, the fashion line and brand began to expand out of America, entering Australia, New Zealand and China, and is now moving into many European countries.
'New York Minute' was Mary-Kate and Ashley's second feature film, released early 2004. This didn't do as well as expected, but they still received high sales and fans loved it. (Ofcourse they did, duh)
The twins starred as very opposite characters, they were moving away from the whole identical twin concept. Following the release of the film,
Mary-Kate was sadly sent to hospital for an eating disorder. She has since returned and is doing well. :)
After this, the girls are now taking a break from the spotlight. They are in college in New York concentrating on their studies (and hopefully having a great time too).
The brand continues, but the movies and television probably will be on hold for a few years. Ashley comments that the next project they do will most likely be separate.
Ashley's eyes are always a little W I D E R .
Mary-Kate used to smile more with her teeth showing, now she tends to smile with her lips pressed together. (wow...)
When they were kids, Ashley had a little freckle above her lip. :)
Mary-Kate's accent is a little more American than Ashley's. It's just a little rougher on vowel sounds. You can notice this especially in 'The Challenge' and in 'When in Rome.'
When they were about 15 and 16, Ashley had curly hair and Mary-Kate had straight hair.
Now, M-K's hair is dark brown, and Ashley's are bleeched, so it's more blonde than it used to be. Their real colors are strawberry-blonde:)
Both twins have a dog, Mary-Kate's is called Lucca, and is chocolate brown. Ashley's is called Liam, and he is light brown. (Like her hair?)
